Currently obsessed with… | WEEKEND WIND UP #63

Once again I’d like to show you the things I madly love at the moment. (We should really make this a category on the blog, don’t you think?)

So, here we go, currently, I’m obsessed with…

1. Matching movie and ice cream duos. Like Casablanca, the movie and Casablanca, the ice cream.

{Remember last year when I got all crazy about Doctor Zhivago?}

2. Cavo

{Listening to their new record ALL THE TIME!}

3. Bluntcards/ecards – they’re just so perfectly… blunt. ^^

Rock ‘n’ Roll Bakery

Just found the most amazing cookie cutter ever:

Looks like good old rock ‘n’ roll has finally made its way into the bakeries – especially following my discovery of the skulls & bones cookie cutter last year.

Along with the perfect kitchen supplies, I would recommend a poster from The Poster List to go on the kitchen door:

I’m back

Ladies and gentlemen, I’m back.

Now, has anyone guessed where I had been? And has anyone got it right?

Let’s have a look… (*insert-dramatic-drumroll*)

I went to see

{in case it's not readable: it says "Bon Jovi"}

Remember my Bon Jovi ramblings about not being able to see them perform in a city nearby once upon a time, not so long ago?

Well, being a Bon Jovi fan is a permanent disease and it takes more than a doctor to prescribe a remedy“, so I thought to myself: if the Bon Jovi concert can’t come to me, I must come to the Bon Jovi concert.

And off I went.

I always pictured myself in New Zealand or New Jersey when attending my first Bon Jovi show outside of Germany.

Well, neither happened to be the case.

I ended up in a place with 3.000 odd inhabitants, speaking a dialect I don’t understand and a language I failed to learn at school – despite six years of study.

My first Bon Jovi show outside of Germany took place in Zeebrugge, Belgium.

Zeebrugge is small, yet charming – although I didn’t even find a dairy, leave alone a supermarket there.

The hotel I had booked a few weeks prior to my stay was a… desaster.

When I arrived I was told there was no such booking under my name and that I must be mistaken.

So I argued with the guy at the reception, because I had received a confirmation of my booking via email a few weeks ago.

Finally, he gave in, agreed that I was right (and he was wrong) – but still didn’t have a room for me.

So eventually, he called his colleague down the road at Hotel Atlas and I ended up in the most charming, beautiful little hotel you can imagine (check the link if you don’t believe me!).

And from that point, I had a fantastic stay in Zeebrugge.

I took a long walk at the beach, hired a bike to ride to Blankenberge, saw the show (unfortunately still didn’t meet Richie Sambora, but one day I will!) and paid a visit to Bruges.

Belgium might not be the usual travel destination but it certainly is worth a visit!

Travelling alone seemed a bit scary at first, but once I was on the road (or on the rail, actually, as I took the train to get there) it was so much fun!

When you are on holiday all by yourself, you can do whatever you want and visit the places you want to see. It’s awesome!

I also want to share some of the pics I’ve taken at the concert, so I will put together a little gallery for you and post shortly.

Have you ever been travelling alone? If so, please share your story, I’m looking forward to hear about your adventures!

Visual wish list | WEEKEND WIND UP #37

Not sure about you, but I am totally into good books, fine baking, cute stuff and cool music.

And – as you may know – my birthday is coming up next week (Wednesday, May 18, in case you wondered), so what better time to pick some nice things and make some sort of visual wish list.

A few things I came across on my travels (on the web, haha) and which I liked:

Now the Bon Jovi bit is actually a bit of a problem. And there’s a bit of a story behind it, too.

I went to my first Bon Jovi show when I was 14 years old (got ticket from my brother and subsequently started developing a proper taste of music) and haven’t missed a Bon Jovi show in my area ever since.

When I lived in New Zealand and heard about Bon Jovi only coming to Auckland and Christchurch, I wrote an email to their management, pretty much saying that I think they should pay some attention to Wellington, too, because it’s the capitol and so on… –

ANYWAYS, last year Bon Jovi played a show in Wellington.

Now, I’m not that naive to believe that they chose Wellington because I told them to, but I was very disappointed that they played Wellington shortly after I had left the city (and the country).

LOST HIGHWAY TOUR {pic: own}

So I went to England – where they played secret gigs (which I didn’t know because they were secret) which I missed.

And then they announced shows in Germany.

And one of them will take place in the very same location where they played when I was 14 and I have been waiting for them to come back to exactly that location again ever since.

BUT – I will not be there.

Because they chose to play their show the very same day of “Irish Night”.

That’s basically a little open air concert, too, which is being hosted by our local Irish pub and my hometown.

And my family’s restaurant because we do the catering.

Meaning I won’t be going to the concert and neither will my brother.

So after missing out on Wellington and London, I will also miss out on the gig here.

Depressing, I know.

{If you’re not a music addict and Bon Jovi fan like myself, you probably cannot relate to my deep despair and most likely feel very very bored by my monologue. If that’s the case I’m sorry. But then again – that would be your problem, not mine. 😉 }
